Akira Miyazawa • Now's The Time

 

Akira Miyazawa (宮沢昭) (December 6, 1927 in Matsumoto – July 6, 2000 in Tokyo) was a Japanese jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist.

Miyazawa played as a teenager in Japanese military bands during World War II, then embarked on a career in jazz music after the war. He worked extensively with Toshiko Akiyoshi in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as with Yasuo Arakawa, Hampton Hawes, Hidehiko Matsumoto, Helen Merrill, Shotaro Moriyasu, Masahiko Satoh, Masahiko Togashi, Mal Waldron, and Sadao Watanabe.

Miyazawa left jazz in the 1970s but returned in 1981 with the albums My Piccolo and On Green Dolphin Street.

Akira Miyazawa (宮沢昭) (6 de diciembre de 1927 en Matsumoto - 6 de julio de 2000 en Tokio) fue un saxofonista, clarinetista y flautista de jazz japonés.

Miyazawa tocó de adolescente en bandas militares japonesas durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y emprendió una carrera en la música de jazz después de la guerra. Trabajó mucho con Toshiko Akiyoshi en las décadas de 1950 y 1960, así como con Yasuo Arakawa, Hampton Hawes, Hidehiko Matsumoto, Helen Merrill, Shotaro Moriyasu, Masahiko Satoh, Masahiko Togashi, Mal Waldron y Sadao Watanabe.

Miyazawa abandonó el jazz en la década de 1970, pero regresó en 1981 con los álbumes My Piccolo y On Green Dolphin Street.
