Metioui, with his introspection in the style of the old masters of the
beginning of this century, heirs of the Andalusian tradition and
accessible through old radio recordings, and with his virtuosity, is
returning to the lute the importance that this instrument had
historically in Hispanic-Arabic music. The rubbed string instruments,
and especially the violin, have recently taken the prominence in the
Arab orchestra.
