Wes Montgomery • Beginnings

Beginnings is a compilation of selected tracks by Wes Montgomery for The Blue Note during the years 1957 to 1959, and since Montgomery's accompanists were not the same in those three years, you will hear tracks from different line-ups throughout the compilation. Positioned as one of Charlie Christian's most important successors, Wes Motgomery made a variation with a characteristic style and employed his own techniques with the guitar, for example, playing with his thumb instead of a pick.
His music does not focus much on improvisation, but maintains certain fixed rhythms and almost always enhances a tendency towards the melodic, either from his own guitar, or leaving room for the saxophone, vibraphone or piano. Begininngs is an ideal compilation if you want to start listening to the work of this guitarist, or to travel in a very pleasant way through the best and softest territories of Hard Bop, a genre of which Wes should be cited as an important reference, but more than anything else in terms of the Jazzy guitar.
