Bud Freeman • The Compleat Bud Freeman

Review
by Scott Yanow
Bud Freeman's only recording as a leader from 1967-73 and first American release since 1963 is an excellent effort recorded while he was a member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band. Backed by the WGJB's rhythm section (pianist Ralph Sutton, bassist Bob Haggart and drummer Gus Johnson), Freeman is in top form on six wonderful quartet numbers (including "Dinah," "You Took Advantage of Me" and "What Is There to Say"), plus six other numbers (highlighted by "Out of My Road, Mr. Toad," "That D Minor Thing" and "Just One of Those Things") on which Bob Wilber (on tenor and soprano) makes the group a quintet.

Revisar
