Michael Heise Trio • Touchdown

 

In the spring of 1995, Danish pianist, Michael Heise took a study tour to New York. There he hooked up with world renowned bassist Larry Grenadier and the talented young drummer All M. Jackson and formed the Michael Heise Trio. Having built up their repertoire during countless jam sessions, both live and in the studio, they decided the time was right to commit their music to CD. Co-produced by the american jazz legend, Richie Beirach, the session took place in New York in February 1996. A mixture of original compositions and standards, the tracks were whittled down to the selection presented here on Storyville. This CD represents yet another example of the new wave of young Danish jazz musicians open to international perspectives and unafraid to experiment. Something's definitely swinging in the state of Denmark, and it's high time the rest of the world had a chance to hear for themselves what's happening!

En la primavera de 1995, el pianista danés Michael Heise realizó un viaje de estudios a Nueva York. Allí se juntó con el mundialmente conocido bajista Larry Grenadier y el joven y talentoso baterista All M. Jackson y formaron el Michael Heise Trio. Después de haber construido su repertorio durante innumerables sesiones de improvisación, tanto en directo como en el estudio, decidieron que era el momento adecuado para plasmar su música en un CD. La sesión, coproducida por la leyenda del jazz americano Richie Beirach, tuvo lugar en Nueva York en febrero de 1996. Una mezcla de composiciones originales y estándares, los temas se redujeron a la selección presentada aquí en Storyville. Este CD es un ejemplo más de la nueva ola de jóvenes músicos de jazz daneses abiertos a perspectivas internacionales y sin miedo a experimentar. Definitivamente, algo se está moviendo en el estado de Dinamarca, y ya es hora de que el resto del mundo tenga la oportunidad de escuchar por sí mismo lo que está sucediendo.
