This is the second set of duets by Archie Shepp (doubling on tenor and soprano) and pianist Horace Parlan after an earlier SteepleChase set titled Goin' Home. It features the duo on blues-oriented pieces from the 1920s. It is particularly interesting to hear Shepp, best known for his ferocious free jazz performances of the mid- to late '60s, adjusting his sound and giving such songs as "Trouble in Mind," Earl Hines' "Blues in Thirds," and "St. James Infirmary" tasteful and respectful yet emotional treatment. Recommended.

DeleteSupongo que ya lo habré comentado. De Archie Sheep tengo un recuerdo imborrable. Había costado la entrada una fortuna. Estaba el trío en el escenario. Todo el mundo aguardando a Sheep. Por fin entra, se tambalea y pataplof, se cae en el escenario completamente ebrio. Se montó una escandalera de las buenas. Unos tratando de ayudarle. Otros clamando por que le devolvieran su dinero. Yo fascinado por aquel espectáculo tan increíble. No he visto a nadie haciendo una entrada en escena tan demoledora. Ni a James Brown siquiera. Qué tío tan grande el Archie.
