  2. "Blues with a bit of harmony" This is how the guitarist Biréli Lagrène, in one of those elliptical formulas of which he has the secret, himself defines the music of his new album "Mouvements". What to say? That after the formidable adventure of the Gipsy Project, Biréli Lagrène wishes to move towards new horizons? Probably yes. But without forgetting altogether that barely out of adolescence, our guitarist, to whom frequenting the music of Django Reinhardt very early taught to "look elsewhere", had already rubbed shoulders with Jaco Pastorius, and other Jacks. Bruce and Ginger Baker (for a punctual reformation of Cream, Biréli taking over on the fly the place left vacant by Eric Clapton!). This affinity with a more "dark" vein in her expression is therefore not new: it deeply permeates its fibers. Back to the blues, then. Which can at least be understood here in three ways. By the rhythm, first of all (the well-felt shuffle of "Jay" imposing itself from the opening of this album), which generously cultivates the groove and the funky accents ("Captain Ferber"). In the sound, obviously, resolutely "electric" (including this "dirty" side, which has become an essential element of guitaristic modernity), which is also justified by the choice of the formula (sax, organ and drums coming for the occasion in reinforcement , one of the privileged settings of the exceptional six-rope technicians, from Wes Montgomery and Jimmy Smith to Tony Williams' Lifetime, via Electric Ladyland). Finally via the theme, which gives pride of place to the blue note ("Where's Frankie", "Maybe Tomorrow").

    "Blues con un poco de armonía" Así es como el guitarrista Biréli Lagrène, en una de esas fórmulas elípticas de las que tiene el secreto, define él mismo la música de su nuevo disco "Mouvements". ¿Qué decir? ¿Que después de la formidable aventura del Gipsy Project, Biréli Lagrène desea avanzar hacia nuevos horizontes? Sí, sin duda. Pero sin olvidar del todo que apenas salido de la adolescencia, nuestro guitarrista, a quien frecuentando la música de Django Reinhardt desde muy temprano aprendió a "mirar hacia otro lado", ya se había codeado con Jaco Pastorius, y otros Jacks. Bruce y Ginger Baker (para una reforma puntual de Cream, Biréli se hace cargo sobre la marcha del lugar dejado vacante por Eric Clapton!). Esta afinidad con una vena más "oscura" en su expresión no es, por tanto, nueva: impregna profundamente sus fibras. De vuelta al blues, entonces. Lo cual puede entenderse aquí al menos de tres formas. Por el ritmo, en primer lugar (el bien sentido shuffle de "Jay" que se impone desde la apertura de este disco), que cultiva generosamente el groove y los acentos funky ("Captain Ferber"). En el sonido, obviamente, decididamente "eléctrico" (incluyendo este lado "sucio", que se ha convertido en un elemento esencial de la modernidad guitarrística), que también se justifica por la elección de la fórmula (saxo, órgano y batería que vienen para la ocasión en refuerzo, uno de los escenarios privilegiados de los técnicos excepcionales de seis cuerdas, desde Wes Montgomery y Jimmy Smith hasta Lifetime de Tony Williams, pasando por Electric Ladyland). Finalmente a través del tema, que da un lugar de honor a la nota azul (""Where's Frankie", "Maybe Tomorrow"). Amazon.
