The 2006 issue of Blue Note Plays Gershwin is very similar to the 1999 compilation of the same name, also on Blue Note. The initial set boasted ten tracks, while this version has seven, none of which are repeated. George and Ira Gershwin's standards are lovingly interpreted by some of the label's hard bop and soul-jazz legends like Stanley Turrentine, Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, Ike Quebec, Thad Jones, and Lee Morgan and Jimmy Smith. For the casual listener, both editions of Blue Note Plays Gershwin will not disappoint.
