Sean McKeon • To The City

Album Notes

Seán grew up listening to music at home on Dublin with his parents Gay McKeon (uilleann pipes) and Mary Corcoran (fiddle and piano) being his earliest influences. He began playing the tin whistle at the age of 6 under the guidance of Maureen McGrattan. Within two years Sean progressed to the uilleann pipes receiving lessons from Seán Óg Potts. By the age of 15 Seán had amassed a total of 5 Fleadh Ceoil na hEireann titles and before the age of 18 he had won the senior Oireactas solo competition. Sean has performed with Noel Hill, Seán Keane , Steve Cooney and Dónal Lunny as well as forging an exciting duet with fiddle player Liam O'Connor. Seán was honoured to be awarded the 2005 TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year. McKeon and O’Connor released the duet album “Dublin Made Me” in 2009 to widespread critical acclaim, with it being described in The Irish Times as “a vibrant collection that never once loses sight of its birthright yet still manages to herald a new departure in casting a spotlight on two exceptional musicians who marry technical prowess with a marvellous sense of adventure and history”. It was awarded the Irish Times CD of the week across all genres.

Seán is also a member of the Damien Dempsey band, performing around the world with the Dublin singer/songwriter, a highlight of which was supporting U2 in Croke Park during their 360 tour. Seán appears on Dempsey’s most recent album “Almigty Love”, which was nominated for a Meteor Choice Music Prize.

The end of June 2013 will see McKeon release the much anticipated solo piping album “To The City”. Seán is joined on the recording by Liam O’Connor (fiddle) and John Blake (guitar)

Notas del álbum

Seán creció escuchando música en casa en Dublín con sus padres Gay McKeon (gaitas uilleann) y Mary Corcoran (violín y piano) siendo sus primeras influencias. Comenzó a tocar la flauta irlandesa a la edad de 6 años bajo la dirección de Maureen McGrattan. Dentro de dos años Sean progresó a los tubos uilleann recibiendo lecciones de Seán Óg Potts. A la edad de 15 años, Seán había acumulado un total de 5 títulos de Fleadh Ceoil na hireann y antes de los 18 años había ganado el concurso en solitario Oireactas para adultos. Sean ha tocado con Noel Hill, Seán Keane, Steve Cooney y Dónal Lunny y ha forjado un emocionante dúo con el violinista Liam O'Connor. Seán tuvo el honor de recibir el premio al Joven Músico Tradicional del Año 2005 de TG4. McKeon y O'Connor lanzaron el álbum a dúo "Dublin Made Me" en 2009 con gran éxito de crítica, siendo descrito en The Irish Times como "una colección vibrante que nunca pierde de vista su derecho de nacimiento, pero que aún así consigue anunciar un nuevo punto de partida para poner de relieve a dos músicos excepcionales que combinan la destreza técnica con un maravilloso sentido de la aventura y la historia".
