Sam Butera And The Witnesses • The Big Horn

Saxophonist Sam Butera is best known for the time he spent backing Louis Prima and Keely Smith. He started his career in New Orleans, but moved to Las Vegas in the early 50’s when Louis Prima called his brother desperately needing a band to back him at The Sahara’s Casbar Lounge. Leaving behind the Shim Sham club and New Orleans, he brought the rollicking New Orleans Rock n Roll sound to Las Vegas and stayed active in show biz throughout the ensuing decades. A dynamic and active septuagenarian, Butera continued to play regularly the clubs on the Vegas strip and occasional tour forays into the early millennium.

El saxofonista Sam Butera es más conocido por el tiempo que pasó acompañando a Louis Prima y Keely Smith. Comenzó su carrera en Nueva Orleans, pero se trasladó a Las Vegas a principios de los años 50, cuando Louis Prima llamó a su hermano desesperado buscando una banda que le acompañara en el Casbar Lounge de The Sahara. Dejando atrás el club Shim Sham y Nueva Orleans, llevó el alegre sonido del Rock n Roll de Nueva Orleans a Las Vegas y se mantuvo activo en el mundo del espectáculo durante las décadas siguientes. Butera, un septuagenario dinámico y activo, continuó tocando con regularidad en los clubes de la franja de Las Vegas y haciendo incursiones ocasionales en giras hasta principios del milenio.
