Larry Goldings • Caminhos Cruzados

Listening to this CD, it is surprising to note that few bossa nova records up to now have featured organs.  Larry Goldings's subtle style (a laid-back Jimmy Smith) perfectly fits the idiom and some of the selections performed on his set are given straight-ahead sections for variety. The music is mostly easy listening with an appealing ensemble sound, consistently excellent concise solos from Goldings and guitarist Peter Bernstein, and tasteful backup from drummer Bill Stewart and percussionist Guilherme Franco. The three guest appearances by Joshua Redman make one wish that he were on more tracks for his tenor fits very comfortably into this setting. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG

This is a fantastic album that takes a bunch of Brazilian bossanova and samba standards and with the use of the Hammond B-3 organ, gives them a new and exciting twist.  The lineup is the classic trio: Goldings, Stewart, and Bernstein.  I lost the insert to my copy, but I think that Joshua Redman plays sax and there's also a Brazilian percussionist.  This is probably my favorite Goldings album and I have most of them. ~ Funk Drummer

Al escuchar este CD, resulta sorprendente observar que hasta ahora pocos discos de bossa nova han incluido órganos.  El estilo sutil de Larry Goldings (un Jimmy Smith relajado) encaja perfectamente en el lenguaje y algunas de las selecciones interpretadas en su set tienen secciones directas para variar. La música es en su mayor parte fácil de escuchar, con un atractivo sonido de conjunto, excelentes y concisos solos de Goldings y el guitarrista Peter Bernstein, y el buen gusto del baterista Bill Stewart y el percusionista Guilherme Franco. Este es un álbum fantástico que toma un montón de estándares de bossanova y samba brasileños y con el uso del órgano Hammond B-3, les da un nuevo y emocionante giro.  La formación es el clásico trío: Goldings, Stewart y Bernstein.  He perdido el encarte de mi copia, pero creo que Joshua Redman toca el saxo y también hay un percusionista brasileño.  Este es probablemente mi álbum favorito de Goldings y tengo la mayoría de ellos. ~ Funk Drummer
