Der niederländische Percussionist und Multiinstrumentalist Phil Martin fragte neulich: „Glaubst Du noch an den Funk?" Und beantwortete die Frage gleich selbst: „Ich schon!" Seine Mitstreiter, Gitarrist Bas van der Wal, Schlagzeuger Salle de Jonge und Hammond-B3-Organist Frank Montis denken genauso, haben sich als The Pulitzers zusammengetan und spielen Funk: pur, instrumental, auf den Punkt. Das Quartett hat seine Lektionen bei den Meters, Jack McDuff und Jimmy Smith gelernt. Für die Gitarrenparts werden Melvin Sparks und Grant Green als Inspiration genannt. Vor Duke Ellington verneigen sich die Pulitzers mit „Don't Get Around Much Anymore", ansonsten rollt „Honk Honk" ernsthaft hard & funky durch weitere acht Eigenkompositionen. Erinnert sich jemand an die New Mastersounds? Hier kommt die holländische Version, smart und effektiv.

El percusionista holandés y multiinstrumentalista Phil Martin pregunto recientemente: ¿Todavía crees en el funk? Y se respondio a si mismo de inmediato: ¡Yo si! Sus colegas, el guitarrista Bas van der Wal, el baterista Salle de Jonge y el organista Hammond-B3 Frank Montis piensan igual, se han unido como The Pulitzers y tocan funk: puro, instrumental, directo al punto.
