Eiji Kitamura (北村英治, born April 8, 1929, Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese jazz clarinetist and tenor saxophonist who made his professional debut at the age of 22. A self-taught musician, Kitamura devoted himself to clarinet playing while still an undergraduate at Keio University in Tokyo. He began working professionally in 1950 with Tetsuro Takahama's Esquire Cats, then worked for three years with Saburo Nambu (1951-53), before forming his first group, Cats Herd (1954-57). He then worked with Mitsuru Ono & His 6 Brothers Band (1957-60), before striking out on his own for good, leading a swing-styled sextet. He first came to prominence in the United States at the 20th Anniversary Jam Session of the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1977. His following in Japan had been built prior to this on his regular television program. He prefers to interpret traditional swing jazz rather than modern jazz, and according to AllMusic is most strongly influenced by Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. He often played alongside visiting American jazzmen throughout his career, recording with Teddy Wilson, Ben Webster and others. In 2007 he received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. Still active at 96 years of age.

Músico autodidacta, Kitamura se dedicó al clarinete mientras era estudiante universitario en la Universidad de Keio en Tokio. Comenzó a trabajar profesionalmente en 1950 con los Esquire Cats de Tetsuro Takahama, luego trabajó tres años con Saburo Nambu (1951-53), antes de formar su primer grupo, Cats Herd (1954-57).
