Review from AllMusic (by Lindsay Planer): This collection brings together some of Sonny Rollins' earliest recordings as a leader. The first four tracks feature Rollins with John Lewis, Milt Jackson, Percy Heath and Kenny Clarke, producing a particularly strong interaction between Rollins' tenor and Jackson's vibraphone. The remaining selections come from another Rollins quartet with Kenny Drew, Percy Heath and Art Blakey, while "I Know" features Miles Davis on piano with Heath and Roy Haynes. Planer emphasizes the energetic character of the MJQ performances and the developing strength of Rollins' early quartet work.
