Biography
Wolfgang Lackerschmid, born in Tegernsee in 1956, has been equally successful as a vibraphone virtuoso and as a composer since the 1970s. He has played live and on more than 100 recordings with jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Attila Zoller, Lee Konitz, Albert Mangelsdorff, Larry Coryell, Buster Williams, Paquito D'Rivera, Jacques Loussier and, since 1978, in several "Vibraphone Summits" with Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Dave Samuels, Mike Mainieri and others. As a music director and producer, he is one of the creative co-creators of the international music scene, and has repeatedly brought innovative projects to fruition.
His compositions combine the classical ductus of percussion and composition studies with the experiences of a musician whose work is geographically spread over America, Asia and many parts of Europe and is musically influenced by his ethnic and cultural differences. Although he chooses the path of improvisation and Moderna jazz for himself as a musician and writes compositions that invite his colleagues to improvise, he knows the appeal of conventional composition: orchestral works, chamber music, choirs, percussion ensembles, string quartets, stage music, ballet music, musicals, poetic settings, radio plays and children's productions testify, one after another, to the high creative power and compositional quality of Wolfgang Lackerschmid. Wolfgang Lackerschmid's jazz compositions have become part of the repertoire of numerous renowned colleagues around the world.
He has composed music for Faust 1 and 2 for theaters such as Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Osnabrück, Kaiserslautern, Koblenz, Sommerspiele Mayen, Augsburger Puppenkiste, Waldbühne Sigmaringendorf, Münchener Kammerspiele, Peer Gynt, Pancomedia, Andorra, Ghetto (musical), Snow White (ballet), Die Spitzeder, Draussen vor der Tür , Das Jahrmarktsfest zu Plundersweilern, Das kleine Känguru (de Paul Maar), Paula und die Kistenkobolde,
Pinocchio, (musical), The Wizard of Oos (musical), A Midsummer Night's Dream, Arturo Ui, Kabale und Liebe and many more.
In addition to jazz songs and children's songs, he has also created numerous art songs, including new songs with texts by Bertolt Brecht (authorized by his heirs), poems by the painter Markus Lüpertz and settings of the "Bäsle Briefe", from which a libretto about W. A. Mozart was created. As an arranger, for example, he has been responsible from the very beginning for all the jazz interpretations of songs from films by European composers produced at the "Night of Film Music". In 1990 he received the Bavarian Prize for the Promotion of Art.
As curator of the Augsburg Peace Festival, for example, he created the formation "Common Language, Common Sense", in which jazz musicians of different religions always elaborate a new concert program, record it and perform it as the main outdoor act. At the "Concerts at the Fronhof" he has conducted the cycle "Jazz meets Classical" for 12 years and has designed the program of numerous concert cycles and jazz festivals since 1976.

A. Mozart. Como arreglista, por ejemplo, ha sido responsable desde el principio de todas las interpretaciones de jazz de canciones de películas de compositores europeos producidas en la "Noche de la Música de Cine".
