Biography
Born in Japan, 1971.
Iwao Ochi grew up in Toyohashi, Aichi.
He started to play rock guitar at age 13.
Gradually, he concentrated on black music and moved to Chicago in 1992.
For the same year, he saw a Jimmy Smith perform with Kenny Burrell at Chicago Jazz Showcase.
It was the first jazz show he looked at, and It was shocking to him.
He got involved in jazz, then he moved to NY.
He studied jazz guitar with Satoshi Inoue, Peter Bernstein and Vic Juris at Mannes College of Music, NYC.
In 1997, He recorded demo with Sam Yahel(org) and Joe Strasser(ds).
Then go back to Japan, He started his music career. He is performing at jazz club in Tokyo (mainly Organ Jazz Club, Body&Soul, Alfie).
Simultaneously, by the club music of the 90s, he is affected and began to create electric music.
He created a lot of Japanese TV commercial music(SkyPerfecTV, FOXch, DISCOVERYch, ANIMAL PLANETch) and remix tracks.
In 2005, His electro jazz band grooB-3 released debut CD [Floating on your silence] and 12″EP[Gypsy Session].
In 2008, his new instrumental hip hop band Speaker Sgt. joined compilation CD [MAN MACHINE] as [THE NUMBER SONG/CUT CHEMIST PARTY MIX].
In 2010, 1st album [Speaker Sgt./P-vine Records] was released.
In 2011, 2nd album [FREAK -THE OTHER SIDE OF FUSION-/P-vine Records]was released.
In 2017, 3rd album [BAD BABY CITY/Black Cream Records]was released.
In 2020, 1st solo album[DEM NEW YORK DUES/featuring Sam Yahel(org)、Anthony Pinciotti(ds) recorded in New York]was released.
In 2022, IWAO OCHI ORGAN TRIO album [COUNTERFLOW/Black Cream Records]was released.
