The tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon is widely recognized for his starring role as an actor in Bertrand Tavernier's 1987 film "Round Midnight." Influenced by Lester Young, as well as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, with whom he often performed, he was one of the first musicians to adapt bebop music to the tenor saxophone during the 1940s. Considered a historic figure who also influenced John Coltrane, he spent a significant amount of time in Europe, where he recorded numerous albums, including this live recording from Paris in 1973. In excellent form and accompanied by the renowned Georges Arvanitas trio, along with Jamaican trumpeter Sonny Grey, he performs some of his most famous compositions during this concert.
