Kenny Burrell & Donald Byrd • All Day Long

Having recorded All Night Long (OJC-427) a week earlier. Kenny Burrell went into the studio on January 4. 1957 for a sequel álbum to be called, probably inevitably. All Day Long Both have become classic examples of the blowing session. a jazz recording phenomenon that flowered with the advent of the long-playing record The formula, whlch produced glories when ¡t worked and boredom when it didn’t, was simple: A handíul of musicians plus a handful of tunes, which were usually wntten shortly before the session or invented on the spot out of familiar harmonio material like the blues and "I Got Rhythm.” This Burrell blowing session is a prime example of his ability to mold a pickup band of all-stars into a cohesive unit and produce a memorable recording.
