Johnny Hammond • Gears [40th Anniversary Edition]

Review from Ace Records (by Dean Rudland): Originally recorded in 1975 with the Mizell brothers, Gears combines jazz, funk, soul and disco elements around Johnny Hammond's organ and electric keyboards. Rudland describes the six-track original album as a carefully constructed production, while the 40th Anniversary Edition adds six previously unissued outtakes that reveal more of the recording process. The additional material includes five previously unreleased pieces and an alternate, skeletal version of "Can't We Smile?".
