Patrick Saussois is a gypsy jazz guitarist, born June 24, 1954 in Paris, and died September 21, 2012 in Paris.
His father is of Breton and Basque origin, his mother of gypsy origin.
The
guitar of his father, an amateur guitarist, fascinates him and he
learns to play the instrument on his own, with the particularity of
being left-handed and playing on a guitar for right-handed people. He listens to a little bit of all kinds of music and he is captivated by a record of Django Reinhardt recorded in 1953. He will learn later that Django also played acoustic guitar...
After his BEPC, he earns his living by doing odd jobs and then helps his father on the fairgrounds.
In 1973, he becomes father of a daughter named Christel.
In 1976 he plays in trio and starts to play balls. He starts a professional career in 1977 and works with Gilbert Leroux and Daniel Garcia. In 1980, he met Didier Roussin, with whom he played in duo for 9 years, and recorded his first album, Si tu savais, in 1982.
Around 1988, Patrick Saussois creates his own record company Djaz Records.
In
1996, he creates his formation Alma Sinti with among others Jean-Yves
Dubanton, Samy Daussat, Jean-Claude Bénéteau, Jean-Claude Laudat, Stan
Laferrière (son of Marc Laferrière) and Jean Cortès.
He
is also a friend of Jean-Luc Chevalier and Daniel Givone, with whom he
has had the opportunity to play in concert several times.
He lived in Montrouge, where he organized an annual Nuit du jazz manouche. He is also a former host on the radio station TSF Jazz.In March 2009, he suffered a stroke, which led to a confinement syndrome, leaving him unable to pursue his career. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Saussois///////
