Kenny Burrell • Blue Muse

This CD by guitarist Kenny Burrell begins with a solid swinger, Will Davis' "Mark 1." Unfortunately, most of the remainder of the set is ballad-oriented and features Burrell's vocals on nearly half of the selections. While Burrell's voice is not bad, it cannot carry an entire project by itself. His guitar playing is fine, but there are no moments where one feels that he is really stretching himself. There are appearances from veteran pianist Gerald Wiggins and tenor saxophonist Herman Riley that add a little bit of spark to the set, but not enough to make this so-so effort all that memorable.

Este CD del guitarrista Kenny Burrell comienza con un swinger sólido, Will Davis '" Mark 1."Desafortunadamente, la mayor parte del resto del set está orientado a las baladas y presenta la voz de Burrell en casi la mitad de las selecciones. Si bien la voz de Burrell no es mala, no puede llevar un proyecto completo por sí sola. Su forma de tocar la guitarra está bien, pero no hay momentos en los que uno sienta que realmente se está estirando. Hay apariciones del veterano pianista Gerald Wiggins y el saxofonista tenor Herman Riley que agregan un poco de chispa al set, pero no lo suficiente como para hacer que este esfuerzo sea tan memorable.
