Yotam Silberstein • The Village

 



Yotam Silberstein was born and raised in Tel-Aviv, Israel. He started playing guitar at the age of 10, focusing mostly on rock and blues.

At the age of 15 Yotam was accepted to the prestigious "Alon" high school for the arts where he studied jazz with such great teachers as Walter Blanding and Amit Golan. During his high school years Yotam won many local competitions and was heralded as a very promising young guitarist.

After finishing high school he relocated to New York City performing regularly and studying with jazz greats Barry Harris and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

At the age of 18, Yotam served his country by joining the IDF (Israel's Army) where he served as a musical director, arranger and lead guitarist for 3 years. During his military service he gained recognition and began playing with many of Israel’s top jazz musicians

At 21 Yotam won the prestigious "Israeli jazz player of the year" competition with his trio, and was asked to perform in Italy at the renowned Umbria Jazz Festival.

The same year Yotam released his debut record on the Fresh Sound New Talent record label called, "The Arrival". The success of his highly acclaimed album enabled him to extensively tour throughout Europe and the Middle East.

In August of 2005 Yotam received a scholarship to study at the New School for jazz and contemporary music in New York City. Yotam is a regular on the jazz scene performing in many of the city's great venues with great artists like: James Moody, Curtis Fuller, Louis Hayes, Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Junior Mance, James Spaulding, Roy Hargrove, Pat Martino, Jorge Rossy, John Faddis, Greg Hutchinson, Antonio Hart, Slide Hampton, Avishai Cohen, Kenny Barron, Peter Bernstein, to name a few.

In September of 2005 Yotam was selected as one of 10 top guitar players to participate in the semi finals of the distinguished Thelonious Monk guitar competition.

In 2009 Yotam Released his new Album 'Next Page' on Posi-Tone Records featuring Chris Cheek on Saxophone, Sam Yahel on Hammond B3 and Willie Jones III on Drums.

Yotam Silberstein nació y creció en Tel-Aviv (Israel). Empezó a tocar la guitarra a los 10 años, centrándose sobre todo en el rock y el blues.

A los 15 años, Yotam fue admitido en la prestigiosa escuela superior de artes "Alon", donde estudió jazz con grandes profesores como Walter Blanding y Amit Golan. Durante sus años de instituto, Yotam ganó muchos concursos locales y fue considerado un joven guitarrista muy prometedor.

Al terminar el instituto, se trasladó a Nueva York, donde actuó con regularidad y estudió con los grandes del jazz Barry Harris y Kurt Rosenwinkel.

A los 18 años, Yotam sirvió a su país alistándose en las FDI (Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel), donde trabajó como director musical, arreglista y guitarrista principal durante 3 años. Durante su servicio militar ganó reconocimiento y empezó a tocar con muchos de los mejores músicos de jazz de Israel.

A los 21 años, Yotam ganó el prestigioso concurso "Jugador de jazz israelí del año" con su trío, y fue invitado a actuar en Italia en el renombrado Festival de Jazz de Umbría.

Ese mismo año, Yotam publicó su primer disco en el sello Fresh Sound New Talent, titulado "The Arrival". El éxito de su aclamado álbum le permitió realizar una extensa gira por Europa y Oriente Medio.

En agosto de 2005, Yotam recibió una beca para estudiar en la New School de jazz y música contemporánea de Nueva York. Yotam es un habitual de la escena jazzística actuando en muchos de los grandes locales de la ciudad con grandes artistas como: James Moody, Curtis Fuller, Louis Hayes, Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Junior Mance, James Spaulding, Roy Hargrove, Pat Martino, Jorge Rossy, John Faddis, Greg Hutchinson, Antonio Hart, Slide Hampton, Avishai Cohen, Kenny Barron, Peter Bernstein, por nombrar algunos.

The Quartette Tres Bien • Where it's at!



The Quartette Trés Bien was an American jazz combo based in St. Louis led by pianist Jeter Thompson. The group started to play around 1960 and began recording in the mid '60s. Jeter Thompson played with Jimmy Forrest, Oliver Nelson and Emmett Carter in his early years. The bassist of the group is Richard Simmons, the drummer Albert St. James who accompanied also Charlie Parker, Tab Smith and Jimmy Forrest. Percussionist Percy James added a latin flavor to the quartette who played more than ten years, before splitting. Jeter Thompson is still active leading for a few years the Trio Tres Bien with brothers Harold Thompson (bass) and Howard Thompson (drums).

El Quartette Trés Bien era un combo de jazz estadounidense basado en St. Louis dirigido por el pianista Jeter Thompson. El grupo comenzó a tocar alrededor de 1960 y comenzó a grabar a mediados de los sesenta. Jeter Thompson jugó con Jimmy Forrest, Oliver Nelson y Emmett Carter en sus primeros años. El bajista del grupo es Richard Simmons, el baterista Albert St. James que también acompañó a Charlie Parker, Tab Smith y Jimmy Forrest.
