Bustan Abraham • Pictures Through The Painted Window

 

The second album of Bustan Abraham, is another step foreword along Bustan's artistic journey.

Many attempts have been made by musicians to create a synthesis between Eastern and Western cultures. Generally the result is that either the Western or Eastern form dominates while the other is merely used for ornamentation. For the past several years Bustan Abraham has met this challenge and has succeeded in pioneering a unique form of instrumental music which combines elements of both these Eastern and Western forms without sacrificing the musical integrity of either.

Bustan (Hebrew and Arabic meaning, "garden of fruits and essences," in this case the garden of Abraham, father of Isaac and Ishmail) was founded in 1991 by Avshalom Farjun. It comprises seven distinguished Israeli musicians, both Jews and Arabs, who have combined their musical experience as composers, soloists and heads of musical ensembles to create original music on a very high international level.

The musical backgrounds of Bustan Abraham's members are very rich and represent an astonishing variety of musical cultures including classical Arabic music, classical European music, jazz, Turkish, Persian and Indian music, flamenco and American folk music.

The instruments played are unusually diverse. Middle Eastern instruments include the oud (Arab lute), qanoun (oriental zither) and a range of percussion instruments such as durbakkeh, daff, zarb and bandir frame drums to name only a few. These are joined by Western instruments including transverse flute, classical and flamenco guitar, contrabass, electric bass, and 5-string banjo. In addition the violin is utilized in both Middle Eastern as well as Western forms of playing. Also represented is an astonishing array of international percussion instruments too numerous to mention! The successful integration of this combination of instruments has never before been presented on the concert stage. The music which embodies this rich diversity is entirely original and was composed and arranged in a cooperative effort by all members of the group.

Bustan aspires to create a new musical form, which speaks to both Eastern and Western audiences, and to pave the way for other joint creative efforts between Arabs and Jews. The group has become a symbol of uncompromising instrumental composition, which has created a new standard of originality in Israeli music, and world music in general, and has received rave reviews to that effect from audiences and critics alike.

Bustan have toured extensively throughout the world between 1992 & 2003 it's powerful stage performance have been always greeted with standing ovations by audiences.

El segundo álbum de Bustan Abraham, es un paso más en el camino artístico de Bustan.

Los músicos han hecho muchos intentos de crear una síntesis entre las culturas orientales y occidentales. Generalmente el resultado es que la forma occidental u oriental domina mientras que la otra se utiliza simplemente para la ornamentación. Durante los últimos años, Bustan Abraham se ha enfrentado a este reto y ha logrado ser pionero en una forma única de música instrumental que combina elementos de estas dos formas orientales y occidentales sin sacrificar la integridad musical de ninguna de ellas.

Bustán (en hebreo y en árabe, "jardín de frutas y esencias", en este caso el jardín de Abraham, padre de Isaac e Ishmail) fue fundado en 1991 por Avshalom Farjun. Está formado por siete distinguidos músicos israelíes, tanto judíos como árabes, que han combinado su experiencia musical como compositores, solistas y directores de conjuntos musicales para crear música original a un nivel internacional muy alto.

Los antecedentes musicales de los miembros de Bustan Abraham son muy ricos y representan una asombrosa variedad de culturas musicales, incluyendo la música clásica árabe, la música clásica europea, el jazz, la música turca, persa e india, el flamenco y la música folclórica estadounidense.

Los instrumentos que se tocan son inusualmente diversos. Los instrumentos de Oriente Medio incluyen el oud (laúd árabe), el qanoun (cítara oriental) y una gama de instrumentos de percusión como durbakkeh, daff, zarb y bandir frame drums, por nombrar sólo algunos. A ellos se suman instrumentos occidentales como la flauta travesera, la guitarra clásica y flamenca, el contrabajo, el bajo eléctrico y el banjo de 5 cuerdas. Además, el violín se utiliza tanto en Oriente Medio como en Occidente. También está representada una asombrosa variedad de instrumentos de percusión internacionales demasiado numerosos para mencionarlos! La exitosa integración de esta combinación de instrumentos nunca antes ha sido presentada en el escenario de un concierto. La música que encarna esta rica diversidad es totalmente original y fue compuesta y arreglada en un esfuerzo cooperativo por todos los miembros del grupo.

Bustan aspira a crear una nueva forma musical, que hable tanto al público oriental como al occidental, y a allanar el camino para otros esfuerzos creativos conjuntos entre árabes y judíos. El grupo se ha convertido en un símbolo de la composición instrumental sin concesiones, lo que ha creado un nuevo estándar de originalidad en la música israelí y en la música del mundo en general, y ha recibido críticas muy favorables tanto del público como de la crítica.

Bustan ha girado extensamente por todo el mundo entre 1992 y 2003, su poderosa actuación en el escenario siempre ha sido recibida con ovaciones de pie por el público.
