Arseniy Shkaptsov is Russian bassoonist and conductor. He is involved in
both jazz and classical music and aims to strengthen diversity and
bring together cultures and traditions through music.
Born in 1993 into a family of musicians, Arseniy was raised with music.
At the age of eleven, Arseniy began playing the bassoon and was admitted
just two years later to the “Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky
Conservatory of Moscow,” where he studied under the expert guidance of
Professor Stanislav Katenin. As a dedicated young musician, Arseniy was
supported by the International Foundations of Vladimir Spivakov and
Yuriy Rozum. Thanks to these foundations, he had the honor of performing
in numerous prestigious concert halls in Russia as well as abroad. As a
young student, he also won a range of international competitions and
has been awarded many titles.
In 2011, after winning one of the most important competitions for young
musicians “Concertino Praga,” he performed as a soloist with “Prague
Radio Symphony Orchestra” in the “Rudolfinum” hall. In the same year he
was admitted to the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland in the class of
Maestro Gabor Meszaros and has been supported by many charitable
foundations. During his studies in Switzerland he has gained vast
experience both as a soloist and an orchestral musician, collaborating
with great musicians such as Kurt Masur, Kristian Jarvi, Mikhail
Pletnev, Ennio Morricone, Daniel Schnyder, Martin Kuuskmann, Mario
Venzago, Alexandr Vedernikov, and Xian Zhang; and being a part of such
orchestras as the “Baltic Sea Philharmonic”, “Orchestra della Svizzera
italiana”, “Kammerphilharmonie Graubuenden”, “Basler Festival
Orchestra”, “Symphonische Orchester Zürich”, and “International Regions
Orchestra”.
Arseniy has a music activity on biggest classical music festivals such
as “Usedom Music Festival”, “Schleswig-Holstein”, “Beethovenfest”,
“Rheingau musik festival” “Sommerfest Bad Kissingen” etc.
In addition to classical music, Arseniy takes great interest in
contemporary music, working with ensembles such as “Studio for new music
ensemble”, “900 presente”, and “Boswil,” and with conductors Arturo
Tamayo, Nagy Szolt, and Vladimir Tarnopolskiy. He is equally interested
in jazz music, playing with the jazz-funk bands “The Sharp Shock”,
“Romano Jazz Quartet”, and “Yellow Shoes band”.
In addition to being an accomplished bassoonist, Arseniy is a skilled
conductor. He took his first lessons in conducting with his father, who
is the chief conductor of the “Philharmonic Orchestra of the Governor of
Orel city” and studied with the legendary Ilya Musin method. Throughout
his university years, he has demonstrated strong leadership skills and
has organized many concerts as a conductor and director of several
different ensembles and projects.
In fact, in 2017 he pursued his aim of bringing solo musicians of
different backgrounds together by giving birth to a new project, known
as the “United Soloists.” The purpose of the project is to unite the
best young solo artists from all over the world into one unique
orchestra that promotes different cultures and traditions through music
and dance. However, the main objective will be to discover and promote
the new talents of art industry.
As a bassoonist, Arseniy participated in and won numerous competitions,
such as the “All-Russian Woodwinds Performers Competition” (Oryol,
Russia. 2nd prize, 2005); “Silver Kamerton” (Oryol, Russia. 1st prize,
2006); “New Names” (Moscow, Russia. Diploma, 2008); “Concertino Praha”
(Prague, Czech Republic. 1st prize, 2010.); “International Competition
of bassoon, Rossini” (Pesaro, Italy, Diploma. 2012); “Citta di Chieri”
(Chieri, Italy. 2nd prize, 2012); “Oldenburg International competition”
(Oldenburg, Germany. Half finalist, 2013); “Ard competition” (Munich,
Germany. Passed preliminary round, 2013.); “Prague Spring Competition”
(Prague, Czech Republic. semi-finalist, 2014); and “Musikwettbewerb
Dienemann-Stiftung” (Luzern, winner, 2016).
As a conductor Arseniy has conducted: “Oryol Govern Symphony Orchestra”
(Russia), Ruse Philharmonic (Bulgaria), “Teatro Cantu”(Italy), Baltic
Sea Philharmonic (Germany).
Currently, Arseniy is developing his career as a conductor while
continuing his career as a bassoonist. In 2018 he released the “Canon”
album with the group “The Sharp Shock” and in August the release of the
album “Bassoonova” with music by A. Jobim is scheduled.

Como director de orquesta, Arseniy ha dirigido: "Orquesta Sinfónica

(Italia), Filarmónica del Mar Báltico (Alemania).
Actualmente, Arseniy está desarrollando su carrera como director de
