Un viaggio nell’universo del grande Wes Montgomery. In questo modo potremmo riassumere il nuovo disco del chitarrista Giuseppe Cistola, intitolato Remember Wes, in uscita il 6 marzo per l’etichetta Emme Record label, proprio nel giorno del centenario della nascita del maestro di Indianapolis. La band che ha preso parte a questo progetto dedicato a uno dei più grandi maestri della chitarra jazz è completata da Fabrizio Ginoble all’organo hammond e Michele Sperandio alla batteria e ripercorre la poetica e le tipiche sonorità dell’organ trio, formazione assai cara al grande Wes. Non a caso il repertorio è composto dai grandi classici del chitarrista e rappresenta un atto d’amore verso la musica di un artista, fonte ispiratrice per molti, e rivoluzionario nel modo di suonare la chitarra.

Tra i brani più significativi che troviamo all’interno di questo lavoro citiamo senza dubbio Mr Walker, grande successo che mantiene la poetica latineggiante, pur con una rivisitazione ritmica che aggiunge nuova freschezza a un grande capolavoro della musica jazz. Anche The Trick Bag, fondamentale nel percorso di Montgomery, pur mantenendo la poetica che lo contraddistingue e un ritmo incalzante, acquista vitalità con una chitarra sempre brillante e una batteria più aperta e dinamica rispetto al brano originale. In ultimo citiamo Polka dots & Moon beams, una ballad che mantiene il sapore del brano originale anche se con dei suoni più moderni.

“Remember Wes – spiega Giuseppe Cistola – è un omaggio dovuto al chitarrista della mia infanzia. Wes infatti è sempre stato la colonna sonora nella mia quotidianità, i dischi di Wes suonavano ogni giorno in casa, tanto che sin da piccolissimo a differenza degli altri bambini, invece di cantare le canzoni che andavano in quel momento, avevo memorizzato e cantavo diversi soli di “zio” Wes. È stato naturale, quindi, mettendo le mani sulla chitarra tentare sin dalle prime volte di emularne i fraseggi; ero così dentro il suono di Wes che non ho mai usato il plettro e avendo ascoltato sempre i suoi dischi, ho interiorizzato il suo linguaggio non attraverso la didattica dei libri, che livella la creatività musicale, ma attraverso il suo suono”

A journey into the universe of the great Wes Montgomery. In this way we could summarize the new album by guitarist Giuseppe Cistola, entitled Remember Wes, to be released on March 6 for the Emme Record label, precisely on the centenary day of the birth of the Indianapolis master. The band that took part in this project dedicated to one of the greatest masters of jazz guitar is completed by Fabrizio Ginoble on hammond organ and Michele Sperandio on drums and retraces the poetics and typical sounds of the organ trio, a formation very dear to the great West. It is no coincidence that the repertoire is made up of the great classics of the guitarist and represents an act of love towards the music of an artist, a source of inspiration for many, and revolutionary in the way of playing the guitar.

Among the most significant pieces that we find within this work we undoubtedly mention Mr Walker, a great success that maintains the Latin poetics, albeit with a rhythmic reinterpretation that adds new freshness to a great masterpiece of jazz music. Even The Trick Bag, fundamental in Montgomery's journey, while maintaining the poetics that distinguishes him and a pressing rhythm, acquires vitality with an always brilliant guitar and a more open and dynamic battery than the original song. Finally we mention Polka dots & Moon beams, a ballad that maintains the flavor of the original song even if with more modern sounds.

“Remember Wes – explains Giuseppe Cistola – is a tribute due to the guitarist of my childhood. In fact, Wes has always been the soundtrack in my daily life, Wes's records played every day at home, so much so that from an early age unlike the other children, instead of singing the songs that were popular at that moment, I had memorized and sang several solos of "Uncle" West. It was therefore natural, putting your hands on the guitar, to try to emulate its phrasing right from the start; I was so into Wes' sound that I never used a pick and having always listened to his records, I internalized his language not through the teaching books, which level musical creativity, but through his sound ”

Un viaje al universo del gran Wes Montgomery. Así podríamos resumir el nuevo disco del guitarrista Giuseppe Cistola, titulado Remember Wes, que verá la luz el próximo 6 de marzo para el sello Emme Record, precisamente en el día del centenario del nacimiento del maestro de Indianápolis. La banda que participó en este proyecto dedicado a uno de los más grandes maestros de la guitarra jazz se completa con Fabrizio Ginoble al órgano hammond y Michele Sperandio a la batería y recorre la poética y los sonidos típicos del trío de órganos, una formación muy querida por los grandes Oeste. No es casualidad que el repertorio esté compuesto por los grandes clásicos del guitarrista y represente un acto de amor hacia la música de un artista, fuente de inspiración para muchos, y revolucionario en la forma de tocar la guitarra.

Entre las piezas más significativas que encontramos dentro de esta obra sin duda mencionamos a Mr Walker, un gran éxito que mantiene la poética latina, aunque con una reinterpretación rítmica que aporta nueva frescura a una gran obra maestra de la música jazz. Incluso The Trick Bag, fundamental en el viaje de Montgomery, manteniendo la poética que lo distingue y un ritmo apremiante, adquiere vitalidad con una guitarra siempre brillante y una batería más abierta y dinámica que la canción original. Finalmente mencionamos Polka dots & Moon beams, una balada que mantiene el sabor de la canción original aunque con sonidos más modernos.
