Junior Mance Trio & Eric Alexander • Groovin' Blues

The blues are definitely grooving here – delivered from a strong soul jazz perspective, thanks to the mighty piano of Junior Mance, the sharp drums of Idris Muhammad, and the well-focused bass of Chip Jackson! In fact, the trio's so great at the start, we're almost surprised when tenorist Eric Alexander makes a few appearances on the record – using his deep-toned tenor to flesh out the sound even more, and maybe even unlock a bit more lyricism in Junior's piano! The tunes are a nice mix of jazz standards and postwar R&B numbers, which keeps things interesting – and titles include "Lonely Avenue", "Blues In The Closet", "Blueberry Hill", "Night Train", "I Got My Mojo Workin", "All Blues", and "Bag's Groove".
