"Stan Getz At Birdland 1961 (Fresh Sound 741) is a special treat for the music is being released for the first time. After two years living in Europe, Getz had just returned to the U.S. and his Jazz Samba bossa nova album had not been released yet. He is teamed with three musicians who had associations with John Coltrane: pianist Steve Kuhn (McCoy Tyner's predecessor with 'Trane), bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Roy Haynes (who was Elvin Jones' main sub). While the recording quality of these broadcasts is not flawless, it is decent and the beauty of Getz's luscious tone comes through. He alternates uptempo material with ballads, sounding beautiful and creative throughout."

"If theres anyone with a more gorgeous tone than Stan Getz, would you please let me know? If todays artists sounded even 33 1/3 as much as he did, Id be content. What weve got here is an extremely rare pair of concerts from November of 1961 in NYC, when Getz had just returned from his 2 year European exile. Hes with an incredible team of Steve Kuhn/p, Jimmy Garrison/b (fresh from Coltrane?!?) and Roy Haynes/dr and they are full of vim on an hour long set. Getz sounds like hes got something to prove on fiery, frenetic and frantic takes of Airgin and Woodyn You. A pair of ballads like Autumn Leaves and Yesterdays Gardenias show the lighter side. The ONLY caveat on this essential disc is that the recording on the first four songs are a bit rough on the lower end (bass and bass drum) making the sound quality a bit of a test at times. For Getz freaks, its a bridge worth crossing."

Después de dos años viviendo en Europa, Getz acababa de regresar a los EE.UU. y su álbum Jazz Samba bossa nova aún no había sido publicado. Forma equipo con tres músicos que se habían asociado con John Coltrane: el pianista Steve Kuhn (predecesor de McCoy Tyner con 'Trane), el bajista Jimmy Garrison y el batería Roy Haynes (que fue el principal sustituto de Elvin Jones). Aunque la calidad de grabación de estas emisiones no es impecable, es decente y se aprecia la belleza del exquisito tono de Getz. Alternó material uptempo con baladas, con un sonido bello y creativo en todo momento".

"Si hay alguien con un tono más magnífico que Stan Getz, ¿podría hacérmelo saber? Si los artistas de hoy en día sonaran aunque fuera 33 1/3 como él, me daría por satisfecho. Lo que tenemos aquí es un par de conciertos extremadamente raros de noviembre de 1961 en Nueva York, cuando Getz acababa de regresar de su exilio europeo de 2 años. Está con un equipo increíble de Steve Kuhn/p, Jimmy Garrison/b (¿¡recién salido de Coltrane!?) y Roy Haynes/dr y están llenos de brío en un set de una hora de duración. Getz suena como si tuviera algo que demostrar en las fogosas, frenéticas y frenéticas tomas de Airgin y Woodyn You. Un par de baladas como Autumn Leaves y Yesterdays Gardenias muestran su lado más ligero. La ÚNICA advertencia sobre este disco esencial es que la grabación de las cuatro primeras canciones es un poco áspera en el extremo inferior (bajo y bombo), lo que pone a prueba la calidad del sonido en algunos momentos. Para los fanáticos de Getz, es un puente que merece la pena cruzar".

El gordo hijoputa de Getz, uno de los peores bichos que el jazz haya conocido. Si Al Haig, que asesinó a su esposa, merece la medalla de oro, el bicharraco de Getz se lleva la de plata. Estafó a casi todos los que trabajaron con él, que en cuanto se percataban de lo que iba, no volvían a tocar con el mangante. Tras un año dando bolos con este impresentable depredador sexual, a Astrud Gilberto le pagó 250 dólares mientras que el gordo cabronazo se compraba una mansión junto a las estrellas de Hollywood de 54 habitaciones.
