Silvan Zingg • In Concerto

Silvan Zingg from Manno near Lugano started as a little boy to improvise on the piano of his mother. His preferences: lively Boogie Woogie, but also sensitive Blues, all with a lot of Swing and variations from different styles of music.

At the age of 18, he appeared at the Masters of Boogie Woogie Night in Charleston, South Carolina. Today, he is rated as one the most famous Boogie Woogie pianists in Europe. His piano playing is characterized by a great portion of swing and blues performed with passion, lightness and brilliant quality.

In his more than 20 years of music career as a professional musician, he has appeared in more than 50 countries in Europe, South-, North- and Central America, Asia and Africa. He performs at the big Boogie Woogie concerts of this world (International Boogie Woogie Festival San Francisco, Festival Boogie Woogie Laroquebrou,…), at Jazz- and Blues-festivals, but also in smaller ambiance such as restaurants or bars, as well as at private events.

Half of his concerts Silvan Zingg performs solo on the piano and the other half for over 17 years with his Trio (Silvan Zingg on piano, Nuno Alexandre on double bass, Valerio Felice on drums).

“Silvan plays as if he were from St. Louis – he could be my Blues Brother!” – Rock ’n’ Roll legend Chuck Berry said enthusiastically about his pianist during a joint concert. Also full of praise was B.B. King at their concert in the Stravinski Hall at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2011.

Not surprisingly, the professional musician has already been interviewed by the BBC and he is called by the international press as “The Boogie Woogie ambassador from Switzerland". During his many tours he had the pleasure to meet among others the following music legends: Ray Charles, Katie Webster, Sammy Price, Memphis Slim, Champion Jack Dupree, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Carlos Santana, Quincy Jones, Monty Alexander, George Benson, Dr John, John McLaughlin, Chuck Berry, B.B. King.

With B.B. King, Silvan Zingg has special memories: Zingg was the only European who attended the funeral of B.B. King in 2015 in Indianola, Mississippi, USA. A day he will never forget.

Besides his professional musician career, Silvan Zingg has been producing the "International Boogie Woogie Festival Switzerland" in Lugano since 2002. In 2020 he will present already the 17th edition of the festival.

He has also produced 14 CDs over the years, two of them with Christmas songs and some CDs with live-recordings of concerts. On the CDs, as well as in his concerts, you will find famous classics as well as own compositions.

It is important to him to pass on his music as well as the history and background of it to the people, students and children. He presents his lecture “The World of Boogie Woogie and Blues Piano” at high schools, universities and festivals (University of Texas, Montreux Jazz Festival, American Schools Switzerland…).
