Percussionist Poncho Sanchez has long led one of the top Latin jazz groups, succeeding his former boss, the late Cal Tjader.
On this enjoyable release, Sanchez features plenty of solos from Justo Almario (on alto, tenor, and flute), trumpeter Sal Cracchiolo, and trombonist Art Velasco, and the three percussionists have many opportunities to romp. The jazz content is pretty high with such songs as "Jumpin' With Symphony Sid," "Senor Blues," and "Manteca" alternating with group originals.
A fine introduction to the accessible Latin jazz of Poncho Sanchez.

El percusionista Poncho Sánchez ha liderado durante mucho tiempo uno de los mejores grupos de jazz latino, sucediendo a su antiguo jefe, el difunto Cal Tjader.
En este agradable disco, Sánchez cuenta con numerosos solos de Justo Almario (alto, tenor y flauta), el trompetista Sal Cracchiolo y el trombonista Art Velasco, y los tres percusionistas tienen muchas oportunidades de retozar. El contenido jazzístico es bastante alto, con temas como "Jumpin' With Symphony Sid", "Senor Blues" y "Manteca" alternados con originales del grupo.
Una buena introducción al accesible jazz latino de Poncho Sánchez.
