Weather Report • Sweetnighter

 

Sweetnighter is Weather Report’s fourth album, released on Columbia Records in 1973. The group had recorded the songs in a five day stretch during February of the same year. It was to be the last album to feature founding member Miroslav Vitouš as the primary bassist. It is considered to be the most stylistically transitional release by the band as it bridged the gap between the more open, improvisational earlier style to a more compositionally structured format. Also, the more prominent use of electric bass is evident here.

Sweetnighter es el cuarto álbum de Weather Report, lanzado por Columbia Records en 1973. El grupo había grabado las canciones en un lapso de cinco días durante febrero del mismo año. Iba a ser el último álbum en presentar al miembro fundador Miroslav Vitouš como bajista principal. Se considera el lanzamiento más estilísticamente transicional de la banda, ya que cerró la brecha entre el estilo anterior más abierto e improvisado y un formato más estructurado composicionalmente. Además, el uso más prominente del bajo eléctrico es evidente aquí.
