The latest album from Canadian tenor saxophonist Mike Allen finds Allen delivering a perceptive and spirited outing featuring drum legend Carl Allen and bassist John Lee.
Mike's lyrical playing and musical hospitality inspire a bandstand vibe that opens up to vital performances. To A Star combines a studio session with a some live tracks recorded live at Frankie's Jazz Club in Vancouver. Allen's specialty is playing in the chordless trio format and arguably no one does it better. The 10-track set is perceptive and spirited outing by a Canadian treasure.
