Elia Bastida • Tribute to Stephane Grappelli

 

As a great reference in violin and jazz, the name of Stéphane Grappelli has been with Èlia Bastida since her beginnings in the world of jazz.
She would define him as a lyrical, passionate, virtuoso, technical, detailed, and romantic musician.
Up to now she has made occasional tribute to him with recordings of some themes such as ‘Stardust-shine’, ‘It had to be you’, ‘How about you' among others.
In this album Èlia Bastida want to give her own view, looking for a way to approach his music from her own musical personality and take it to her own territory.
They have made a journey through the various facets of Grappelli. Starting with the important tandem he formed with Django Reinhardt with the songs ‘Clair de Lune’, ‘Anniversary song’ and ‘Troublant Bolero’, continuing with some of the standards he recorded such as ‘Makin’ Whoopee’, ‘I can’t get started’, ‘Flamingo’, ‘Nature boy’, ‘My one and only love’ and ‘Django’, and recalling with the song ‘Izaura’ his forays into bossa-nova with the album “La Grande Réunion” which he recorded with Baden Powell in 1986. She also wants to do her own version of Bach’s ‘Double Concerto’, recalling his recording with Eddie South and Django Reinhardt.
She also wanted to dedicate two songs that she composed for the occasion to him, thinking of bringing his essence to other styles such as Brazilian music and funk with ‘Dance for Stéphane’ and ‘Grappelia’.
The band is made up of by Elia Bastida, violin; Josep Traver, guitar; Joan Chamorro, double bass; Arnau Julià, drums.

Como gran referente del violín y del jazz, el nombre de Stéphane Grappelli acompaña a Èlia Bastida desde sus inicios en el mundo del jazz.
Ella lo definiría como un músico lírico, apasionado, virtuoso, técnico, detallista y romántico.
Hasta ahora le ha rendido algún que otro homenaje con grabaciones de algunos temas como 'Stardust-shine', 'It had to be you', 'How about you' entre otros.
En este disco Èlia Bastida quiere dar su propia visión, buscando la manera de acercarse a su música desde su propia personalidad musical y llevarla a su propio terreno.
Han hecho un recorrido por las distintas facetas de Grappelli. Empezando por el importante tándem que formó con Django Reinhardt con los temas 'Clair de Lune', 'Anniversary song' y 'Troublant Bolero', continuando con algunos de los estándares que grabó como 'Makin' Whoopee', 'I can't get started', 'Flamingo', 'Nature boy', 'My one and only love' y 'Django', y recordando con la canción 'Izaura' sus incursiones en la bossa-nova con el álbum "La Grande Réunion" que grabó con Baden Powell en 1986. También quiere hacer su propia versión del 'Doble Concierto' de Bach, recordando su grabación con Eddie South y Django Reinhardt.
También ha querido dedicarle dos canciones que ha compuesto para la ocasión, pensando en llevar su esencia a otros estilos como la música brasileña y el funk con 'Dance for Stéphane' y 'Grappelia'.
La banda está formada por Elia Bastida, violín; Josep Traver, guitarra; Joan Chamorro, contrabajo; Arnau Julià, batería.
