Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne & Ray Brown • Poll Winners Three!

Review by Scott Yanow
From 1956-1959, it seemed as if guitarist Barney Kessel, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Shelly Manne won just about every jazz poll. For their third joint recording, which has been reissued on CD, the musicians contributed an original apiece and also performed seven standards. Highlights of the fairly typical but swinging straightahead set include "Soft Winds," "It's All Right with Me," "Mack the Knife," and "I'm Afraid the Masquerade Is Over."

A1 - Soft Winds     4:11
A2 - Crisis     3:45
A3 - The Little Rumba     3:35
A4 - Easy Living     3:20
A5 - It's All Right With Me     3:39
B1 - Mack The Knife     3:49
B2 - Raincheck     3:04
B3 - Minor Mystery     5:48
B4 - I'm Afraid The Masquerade Is Over     4:30
B5 - I Hear Music     2:52

   Bass – Ray Brown
   Drums – Shelly Manne
