<div style="text-align: justify;">
Biograph: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Inspired to switch from piano to organ by Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson was
one of the Hammond B-3's most bop-rooted players, able to play bluesy
soul-jazz grooves or break out of the pocket for some nimble, sharply
defined solo lines. Though he led numerous recording dates for Prestige
and later Muse, he was best-known as Sonny Stitt's favorite organist,
proving eminently compatible with the Parker-influenced saxophonist.
Patterson was born in Columbus, OH, on July 22, 1936, and began studying
piano as a child. His first major influence was Erroll Garner, and some
of that flavor remained in his playing even after he heard Jimmy Smith
in 1956 and changed instruments. Patterson made his professional debut
on the organ in 1959, and played with a number of groups before Stitt
discovered him. The association helped make Patterson's name, and he
began recording for Prestige in 1964, often with a trio featuring
guitarist Pat Martino and drummer Billy James. Patterson also played
with numerous other soul-jazz sax greats over the course of the '60s,
before settling in Gary, IN, toward the end of the decade. Drug
addiction curtailed his recording activities somewhat, as only a few
sporadic sessions for Muse appeared during the '70s. He did revive his
career somewhat after moving to Philadelphia, but his health worsened,
forcing him to take dialysis frequently; he died on February 10, 1988.<br />

Biografía:
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">

and extremely unassuming off the bandstand, Hubert Sumlin played a
style of guitar incendiary enough to stand tall beside the immortal
Howlin' Wolf. The Wolf was Sumlin's imposing mentor for more than two
decades, and it proved a mutually beneficial relationship; Sumlin's
twisting, darting, unpredictable lead guitar constantly energized the
Wolf's 1960s Chess sides, even when the songs themselves (check out "Do
the Do" or "Mama's Baby" for conclusive proof) were less than stellar.
Sumlin started out twanging the proverbial broom wire nailed to the wall
before he got his mitts on a real guitar. He grew up near West Memphis,
Arkansas, briefly hooking up with another Young Lion with a rosy
future, harpist James Cotton, before receiving a summons from the mighty
Wolf to join him in Chicago in 1954. Sumlin learned his craft nightly
on the bandstand behind Wolf, his confidence growing as he graduated
from rhythm guitar duties to lead. By the dawn of the '60s, Sumlin's
slashing axe was a prominent component on the great majority of Wolf's
waxings, including "Wang Dang Doodle," "Shake for Me," "Hidden Charms"
(boasting perhaps Sumlin's greatest recorded solo), "Three Hundred
Pounds of Joy," and "Killing Floor."<br /></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Although they had a somewhat
tempestuous relationship, Sumlin remained loyal to Wolf until the big
man's 1976 death. But Sumlin cut a handful of solo sessions before that,
beginning with a most unusual 1964 date in East Berlin that was
produced by Horst Lippmann during a European tour under the auspices of
the American Folk Blues Festival (the "behind the Iron Curtain" session
also featured pianist Sunnyland Slim and bassist Willie Dixon). In
subsequent years Sumlin allowed his vocal talents to shine, recording
solo sets that revealed him to be an understated but effective singer --
while his guitar continued to communicate most forcefully. The esteem
with which he was held by musicians of a later generation was ably
demonstrated by the guest list on Sumlin's 2004 album About Them Shoes,
including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Levon Helm, and David Johansen,
not to mention a noted bluesman from Sumlin's own past, harmonica player
James Cotton, the old friend and bandmate who first played with Sumlin
in West Memphis back in their teenage years of the early '50s, before
Cotton joined up with Muddy Waters and moved to Chicago, paralleling
Sumlin's own journey to the Windy City around the same time. He followed
up About Them Shoes with Treblemaker in 2007. Hubert Sumlin died of
heart failure in Wayne, New Jersey on December 4, 2011; he was 80 years
old. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards paid for the bluesman's funeral
expenses.<br /></div><div>https://www.allmusic.com/artist/hubert-sumlin-mn0000829643/biography<br /><br /><p></p><p style="text-align: center;">///////<br /></p><br />Biografía<br />por Bill Dahl<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Silencioso
enceres de Wolf, incluyendo "Wang Dang Doodle", "Shake for Me", "Hidden
En 2007 publicó About Them Shoes y
Treblemaker.
Mick Jagger y Keith
Richards pagaron los gastos del funeral del bluesman.<br /></div>https://www.allmusic.com/artist/hubert-sumlin-mn0000829643/biography<br /><p> <br /><span></span></p><a name='more'></a>Tracks:<br />1 - I Don't Want To Hear About Yours<br />Written-By – D. "Where Did I Leave My Keys?" is Jonny Henderson's debut album as a leader, featuring ten groove-laden instrumentals that you just can't help moving to. Laced with funk, jazz, blues and soul, this album takes the Hammond organ work Jonny is known for with bands like the Matt Schofield Trio and throws a variety of other vintage sounds into the mix: Wurlitzer and Rhodes electric pianos, Clavinet and even a touch of Melodica.<br />

a group that recorded for Capitol Records, and also toured with
soul-blues man Little Milton Campbell. Bassist Morris was part of
Mercury Records' David and the Giants and performed in a popular
regional Gulf Coast band, Magik. Drummer Ross, also from Mobile, was a
founding member of Wet Willie, and he was involved in co-writing the
band's hits "Keep on Smilin'," "Red Hot Chicken" and "Macon Hambone

The Beat Daddys formed in Evansville, Indiana in the mid-1980s and
released their own self-produced album before signing with Malaco

Clarksdale and South to Mississippi, are not straight-ahead blues, to be
sure, but fans of blues, roots-rock and Southern rock can find much to
appreciate in either of them.</div>

television series Bonanza, which climbed to number 19. For the rest of
the '60s, Caiola released a number of easy listening instrumental albums
and also hosted a television show, which was only aired for a short
while. Caiola continued to record throughout subsequent <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">decades</span>; he died in Allendale, New Jersey in 2016 at the age of 96.<br />

Hammond B-3 master Melvin Rhyne's eighth Criss Cross release as a leader is another sterling chapter in his association with guitarist Peter Bernstein. Their exquisite rapport is assisted by another one of Rhyne's longtime colleagues, drummer Ray Appleton.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The trio skillfully maneuvers through a program of choice items from the American Popular Songbook, classic jazz compositions like 'All Blues' and 'Jordu', as well as Rhyne's originals.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Readily moving from blues to ballads to up-tempo burners, Rhyne and company make this an essential addition to his impressive discography.</div>

This CD reissue is the only one of the trio that features Cobb as the only horn and backed by a pianist (Ray Bryant) instead of an organ player. With bassist Wendell Marshall, drummer Art Taylor and Ray Barretto on conga completing the group, most of the focus is on Cobb's tough yet flexible tenor. Such songs as "When My Dreamboat Comes Home," "Blues in the Closet" and a remake of "Flying Home" make this the definitive Arnett Cobb album from the era. Highly recommended. He played with a few top R&B bands, including Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson (1948-1951), Bull Moose Jackson (1952), and Earl Bostic (1955-1956); was with James Moody's group (1956-1958); and appeared on several Gil Evans records between 1958-1964. Probably his most significant association was with the 1964 Charles Mingus Sextet that toured Europe. Also in the group were Eric Dolphy, Clifford Jordan, Jaki Byard, and Dannie Richmond. Coles can be seen holding his own against those giants on a European television show (available on a Shanachie video), but he had to leave the tour halfway through due to a sudden illness. He also played with Herbie Hancock's sextet (1968-1969), Ray Charles (1969-1971), Duke Ellington (1971-1974), Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (briefly in 1976), Dameronia, Mingus Dynasty, and the Count Basie band when it was under Thad Jones' leadership (1985-1986), but fame managed to elude him. Coles led sessions through the years for Epic, Blue Note, Mainstream, and finally for Criss Cross, before passing away from cancer.<br />https://www.allmusic.com/artist/johnny-coles-mn0000201232/biography<br /><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">///////<br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br />Biografía<br />por Scott Yanow<br />Johnny Coles, un excelente trompetista con un grito distintivo, tuvo durante mucho tiempo la capacidad de decir mucho con unas pocas notas. Coles dirigió sesiones a lo largo de los años para Epic, Blue Note, Mainstream y, finalmente, para Criss Cross, antes de fallecer de cáncer.<br />https://www.allmusic.com/artist/johnny-coles-mn0000201232/biography<br /><br /><br /><span></span></p><a name='more'></a>Tracks:<br />1 - Never Say Goodbye 3:01<br />2 - September Of My Years 5:29<br />3 - 728 7:17<br />4 - Petits Machins 3:41<br />5 - Betty's Bossa 4:28<br />6 - Funk Dumplin' 6:49<br /><br /><br />Credits:<br /> Design [Cover] – Ruby Mazur's Art Department<br /> Directed By – Ernie Wilkins<br /> Drums – Bruce Ditmas<br /> Electric Bass, Acoustic Bass – Reggie Workman<br /> Electric Piano, Piano [Acoustic] – Cedar Walton<br /> Engineer – Carmine Rubino<br /> Liner Notes – 杉田宏樹*, Nat Hentoff<br /> Photography By – Raymond Ross<br /> Producer – Bob Shad<br /> Tenor Saxophone – Gregory Herbert<br /> Trombone – Astley Fennell*<br /> Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Johnny Coles<br /> Tuba – Howard Johnson <br /><br />Label: Solid Records (6) – CDSOL-45246<br />Series: Mainstream Records Master Collection – No.046<br />Format: <br />CD, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered<br />Country: Japan<br />Released: Jul 12, 2017<br />Genre: Jazz<br />Style: Jazz-Funk<br />https://www.discogs.com/release/10972555-Johnny-Coles-Katumbo-Dance<br /><br /><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidaSM_1ufHcFhsaRHOs_q01IFlDBr8-Kw2bf943U9X-C4xo2nJOgZh18zWMlfbe7T3PqMoTkH9gIGYF3L3h2vTpnMvjHWlV50UMKFqEPBSCQJzPFvAQuWV96vfxveQ0mcarsS03lymTGb81EUVqAPQ9fkfY4-_4D9wwfIoA9ntZ767_GlSGmr51-NDfw/s600/Back.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="590" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidaSM_1ufHcFhsaRHOs_q01IFlDBr8-Kw2bf943U9X-C4xo2nJOgZh18zWMlfbe7T3PqMoTkH9gIGYF3L3h2vTpnMvjHWlV50UMKFqEPBSCQJzPFvAQuWV96vfxveQ0mcarsS03lymTGb81EUVqAPQ9fkfY4-_4D9wwfIoA9ntZ767_GlSGmr51-NDfw/s320/Back.jpg" width="315" /></a></div><br /><p></p><br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <p>

Named in relation to Emmanuel's status as an honorary Kentucky Colonel and Taylor's lettered English roots, The Colonel & The Governor is primarily a collection of the duo's favorite jazz standards and pop classics, delivered in a way that betrays not only their shared virtuosity, but also their sense of playfulness. In the immediate years leading up to this release, while Emmanuel's studio output has been relatively sparse -- bar the impressive 2010 solo album Little by Little and the 2011 John Fahey nod that was All I Want for Christmas -- Taylor has been more prolific, collaborating with such jazz luminaries as Frank Vignola and Alan Barnes. Although Emmanuel and Taylor are both notoriously comfortable in the art of genre-hopping, it's Taylor's gentle Django Reinhardt- and Stéphane Grappelli-influenced jazz heredity that forms the basis of this set. So even though we're occasionally given brief glimpses of Emmanuel's accomplished folk and country leanings -- mainly through his tasteful rhythm-cum-lead playing -- it's clear that jazz is the order of the day on this release. When the duo run through "Jersey Bounce" -- a '40s swing hit for Benny Goodman -- and the jazz standard "Bernie's Tune," it's equally clear that Emmanuel is more than at home in this territory. Among the pop material on display here is the duo's inventive take on the early-'60s Kathy Kirby hit "Secret Love." Built around Emmanuel's singular use of harmonics, it's a clear highlight of the disc. Elsewhere, Taylor contributes two original compositions to the album in the form of the tender ballad "True," and the addictive, Caribbean-influenced "Down at Cocomo's." More than anything it's the duo's sheer enthusiasm for guitar playing that resonates across this release, and although their audible nods of approval to each other's contributions can occasionally be distracting, this is an album that should impress any listener with guitar virtuosity high on their agenda.<br />https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-colonel-the-governor-mw0002491058<br /><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">///////<br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br />Reseña<br />por James Wilkinson<br />Hay un sentido implícito de admiración mutua detrás del título de este álbum de colaboración entre dos de los guitarristas más talentosos - y ciertamente más condecorados - de fingerpicking del mundo.
sales. Whilst vinyl never ceased to be the favorite amongst many music
lovers and DJs, from the late 1980s the recording industry regarded it
as an outdated relic, consigned to dusty domestic corners and obscure
record shops. So why is vinyl now experiencing a ‘rebirth of its
cool’?Dominik Bartmanski and Ian Woodward explore this question by
combining a cultural sociological approach with insights from material
culture studies. Presenting vinyl as a multifaceted cultural object,
they investigate the reasons behind its persistence within our
technologically accelerated culture. Informed by media analysis, urban
ethnography and the authors’ interviews with musicians, DJs, sound
engineers, record store owners, collectors and cutting-edge label chiefs
from a range of metropolitan centres renowned for thriving music scenes
including London, New York, Tokyo, Melbourne, and especially Berlin,
what emerges is a story of a modern icon.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span> </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"> <b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><span class="author notFaded" data-width="">

Even more impressive, David is the rare artist able to innovate in each category. Thus it’s no surprise that he’s the most recorded contemporary jazz pianist of our time, having recorded thirty five cd’s as a leader and hundreds more as a sideman, on various major labels globally. A Milwaukee native, David was playing the clubs as a preteen, and before he’d even come of age he was already grabbing the attention and respect of jazz legends like Sonny Stitt, and Chet Baker. They urged him to make the move to New York City, which he did in 1992.<br />Beautifully complex and memorable<br /><br />The mark of a true artist, David’s style appeals to a wide range of musical tastes and levels of sophistication. His melodies and harmonies are beautifully complex and memorable. As a composer and instrumentalist, he has developed a signature style that is readily recognizable. His cooperative group “One For All” featuring tenor great Eric Alexander, has attained critical acclaim with their impressive 16 cd discography, and live concerts worldwide including appearances at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival.<br /><br />Hazeltine is one of the most sought after pianists today. He has worked with some of the world’s most respected jazz legends including James Moody, Eddie Harris, Jon Faddis, Joe Henderson, Pepper Adams, Jon Hendricks, and Marlena Shaw. David is known for taking a familiar or unexpected song and making it new, making it his own. He effortlessly transfers this skill from song to stage. Whether he’s composing or interpreting, accompanying or leading, you are certain to end the set remembering the sounds of David Hazeltine.<br />Carrying the art forward<br /><br />A brilliant teacher, David is also determined to carry the art forward to the next generation. Formerly an Associate Professor at Berklee, he currently teaches at SUNY-Purchase in New York. David is also a highly skilled clinician, and has served on the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp faculty for the past 15 years. His teaching has had a major impact on many of today’s young professional pianists including Ben Markley, who published his doctorate “The David Hazeltine Method” based on his lessons with Mr. Hazeltine. Hal Leonard has published the new “Real Book - Enhanced Edition”, featuring David’s own re-harmonizations of 200 well known standards. Lessons from David are also available on his online workshops; check out his sessions on harmony at www.jazzpianomastery.com, and on the essentials of bebop at www.mymusicmasterclass.com.<br /><br />Check the itinerary for upcoming dates; don’t miss your chance to hear one of the most talented and accomplished jazz pianists of our time.<br />https://www.davidhazeltine.com/biography</p><p style="text-align: center;">///////</p><p style="text-align: justify;">David Hazeltine es uno de los pocos pianistas contemporáneos que domina las principales habilidades musicales, desde la improvisación y la técnica hasta el acompañamiento, los arreglos y la composición. But FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, while certainly easy on the ears, is also one of Evans' most intriguing "lost" records, brought to us courtesy of Verve's winning "By Request" series. The novelty is that Evans plays both Fender Rhodes and acoustic piano simultaneously in real time, trading off themes and improvs with deliberative taste and, of course, rare skill. The sessions were produced by Evans' long-time, protective manager Helen Keane, so there was little danger of "selling out."<br /><br />Unobtrusively arranged by Michael Leonard, this 1969 release resembles nothing so much as famed bossa nova composer Antonio Carlos Jobim's series of shimmering instrumental albums with arranger Claus Ogerman, even without those gently relentless rhythms driving every tune. Still, the highlight of this album is the dancing two-part "The Dolphin - Before & After," a non-Jobim bossa nova which allows Evans his only extended improvisations.<br />https://www.allmusic.com/album/from-left-to-right-mw0000044685<br /><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">///////<br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br />Reseña de AllMusic<br />En los años 60, el pianista de jazz Bill Evans grababa ocasionalmente una sesión orquestal "easy listening" para pagar las facturas, con resultados previsiblemente mediocres.
