Soul Jazz Unit

The Soul Jazz Unit trio was born in 2012 from an idea by guitarist / producer Pierluigi Masciarelli who, together with Emiliano Pari (hammond organ and vocals) and drummer Marcello Surace, started this musical project by merging the jazz language with rhythm & blues, gospel and funk. During the first concerts, the band concentrates mainly on acquiring an original sound arranging standards drawn from the soul jazz repertoire of the 60s: masters like Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, Jack Mcduff, George Benson and Sonny Stitt. After the release of the first album in 2013 "Old School Recipes" with Irma Records, the trio continues concerts in Italian clubs and festivals, including the Atina Jazz in July 2014.

The Band

The trio SOUL JAZZ UNIT is a project in which the language of jazz is fused with rhythm & blues, gospel and funk. Formed in 2012, its members are Pierluigi Masciarelli (guitarist / producer), Emiliano Pari (Hammond organ and vocals) and Marcello Surace (drums). At first, the trio performed standards from the 1960s soul jazz repertoire of Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, Jack McDuff, George Benson, Sonny Stitt. In 2013, they recorded the album "Old School Recipes" (Irma Records) which has 6 original songs and 4 covers with fresh arrangements by the group ("Red Baron" by Billy Cobham, "Your is the light" by Santana, "Love having you around ”by Stevie Wonder and the super classic“ Summertime ”). They are playing in many clubs and festivals, as Atina Jazz 2014.

El trío de Soul Jazz Unit nació en 2012 a partir de una idea del guitarrista / productor Pierluigi Masciarelli quien, junto con Emiliano Pari (órgano y voz de hammond) y el baterista Marcello Surace, comenzaron este proyecto musical fusionando el lenguaje del jazz con el rhythm & blues, gospel y funk. Durante los primeros conciertos, la banda se concentra principalmente en adquirir un sonido original que arregla los estándares extraídos del repertorio de soul jazz de los años 60: maestros como Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, Jack Mcduff, George Benson y Sonny Stitt. Después del lanzamiento del primer álbum en 2013 "Old School Recipes" con Irma Records, el trío continúa conciertos en clubes y festivales italianos, incluido el Atina Jazz en julio de 2014.
