John Jenkins • John Jenkins With Kenny Burrell

The second (and best) of John Jenkins' two sessions as a leader features the altoist in a quintet with guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Dannie Richmond. Sounding at times like Charlie Parker (with touches of Phil Woods and Jackie McLean), Jenkins easily keeps up with his better-known sidemen and plays the boppish music with plenty of creativity, emotion, and excitement. After listening to the high-quality set, one wonders why Jenkins did not make it.

La segunda (y mejor) de las dos sesiones de John Jenkins como líder presenta al contralto en un quinteto con el guitarrista Kenny Burrell, el pianista Sonny Clark, el bajista Paul Chambers y el baterista Dannie Richmond. Sonando a veces como Charlie Parker (con toques de Phil Woods y Jackie McLean), Jenkins se mantiene fácilmente al día con sus compañeros más conocidos y toca la música boppish con mucha creatividad, emoción y emoción. Después de escuchar el set de alta calidad, uno se pregunta por qué Jenkins no lo logró.
