Laurie Johnson & The London Studio Orchestra • The Avengers & The New Avengers & The Professionals



Laurie Johnson was born in Hampstead, London in 1927, studied at the Royal Gollege of Music and later taught there for a time. In 1945 he joined the Coldstream Guards, serving for four years, subsequently entering the film world in 1956. He has composed scores for more than 35 feature fiíms including Tiger Boy, Hot Millions, The Belstone Fox, The Maids, First Men in the Moon, Hedda and Dr Strangelove. Particularly active in composing scores for televisión, including The Avengers, The New Avengers and The Professionals he has written music and themes for over three hundred TV films and shows.

Laurie Johnson has also experienced considerable success in the theatreand in 1960hisscore for the stage musical Lock Up Your Daughters, with lyrics by Lionel Bart, ran for over four years in London, starring Bernard Miles and Hy Hazel. He also wrote the music for The Four Musketeers which starred Harry Secombe and ran at the Drury Lañe Theatre for almost two years.

His talent also extends to concert music and his Synthesis for combined symphony and jazz orchestra was amongst the year’s ten best records when issued in 1970. He has also written a tone poem for orchestra and narrator, the Conquistadors, a cantata Hiawatha and music for military band.
