Johnny Colon & Orchestra • Boogaloo Blues



Johnny Colon is an American salsa musician, leader of the Johnny Colon Orchestra and founder of the East Harlem Music School, also known as a major contributor to the boogaloo sound of the 1960s.

Colon was born in New York City to parents of Puerto Rican heritage. He wrote most of the Orchestra's tunes, sings, plays percussion, piano and trombone, and first found success in the world of salsa with his 1967 debut album, Boogaloo Blues.[1][2] The record was produced by George Goldner and sold around three million copies worldwide.[3] He released five albums over the period 1967-72, and in 1968 founded the East Harlem Music School.[2] His 2008 album "Keeping It Real" features the American pop songbook.

Johnny Colón es un músico de salsa estadounidense, líder de la Orquesta Johnny Colón y fundador de la Escuela de Música de East Harlem, también conocido como uno de los principales contribuyentes al sonido del boogaloo de los años 60.

Colón nació en la ciudad de Nueva York de padres de origen puertorriqueño. Escribió la mayor parte de las melodías de la Orquesta, canta, toca percusión, piano y trombón, y encontró por primera vez el éxito en el mundo de la salsa con su álbum debut de 1967, Boogaloo Blues. El disco fue producido por George Goldner y vendió alrededor de tres millones de copias en todo el mundo Publicó cinco álbumes en el período 1967-72, y en 1968 fundó la Escuela de Música del Este de Harlem Su álbum de 2008, Keeping It Real, presenta el cancionero pop estadounidense.
